Chapter 15 ~ Luke
I was looking forward to going home and seeing my family.
When I left, Emma had only been there for two days, and already everything was running smoothly.
Tonight would be her night. I could hardly wait for her to tell me everything that happened this week.
After the honeymoon, I knew she could use a quiet week getting to know her sister-wives.
I was looking forward to hearing if Ann and Tracy could talk Emma into wanting more than one child. It was easier to have more kids when the money to give them everything they needed and wanted was there. She would see that and realize that her babies could be special to us no matter how many she had.
I would love to have a couple of kids with her who looked like her. Her dark hair was something special.
Every evening when I called and asked to talk to Emma, she had already gone to bed. Ann had told me that Emma was exhausted from the honeymoon and scolded me for making her do so many things that scared her. She told me that Emma was very sensitive, but that she was trying very hard to fit in.
I hoped she wouldnât be too tired to spend time with me tonight.
It was suppertime when I arrived on Friday night.
I found my family eating in the kitchen. Emma must have cooked because it smelt better than it usually did. My mouth was watering.
Emma was standing at the stove in the island, wiping it clean.
I went to her and gave her a kiss on her cheek to surprise her.
âIâm home,â I told her, stating the obvious.
She looked at me and forced a smile. My first thought was that something must have happened. Had Ann and Tracy gone too far with their pushing her to want more kids? They didnât understand the real reason why Emma only wanted one child. I did.
I gave her a hug. âIâm all yours tonight. Weâll talk about it,â I whispered in her ear, making her a promise.
She nodded at me.
Then I went over to the others, gave my wives kisses, and joined them at the table.
Emma brought me a plate piled high with food before she returned to the kitchen and stood behind the counter to watch us eat.
The kids had finally noticed that I was here. I gave them hugs and asked them how the week went. They told me several things that I had missed. The was a stubbed toe that seemed to be the main event of the week.
âHow was your week, Luke?â Ann asked me warmly after the kids had settled down.
âI was able to help another company. It went faster than it usually does because they listened to me right away,â I told them.
âWe always have to listen to Daddy,â Molly said.
âThatâs right. Youâre so smart,â I praised her.
I loved being at home with my family.
âEmma, are you already finished?â I asked her. It bugged me that she was hovering in the kitchen and not at the table with the rest of us.
